CALL functions
- Teacher‘s screen and voice transmission
- The teacher’s PC screen and microphone audio are sent to the learner. The teacher’s PC screen can be displayed in full screen and window size.
- Video distribution
- DVD and video footage or video files such as MPEG can be simultaneously distributed. The teacher can choose a display mode of either full screen or window size for learners.
- Monitor / thumbnail display
- This function enables the teacher to monitor the screen and audio of the learner. The teacher can concurrently monitor activities of all or multiple learners, while switching from MONITOR to INTERCOM or vice versa.
- Intercom
- The teacher can remotely control each learner's PC while talking to the learner.
- Model
- The screen and audio of any learner can be presented to all learners.
- Electronic indicator
- Marking can be done on the PC screen when sending out the teacher’s screen, intercom, or model.
- Pair conversation practice
- Conversation practice can be done in peer pairs among learners either in order of seat number or with randomly assigned partners. During the conversation, the teacher can switch pair partners or let latecomers join the conversation without affecting the conversation of other pairs.
- Dialogue recording
- Conversations can be recorded, saved and retrieved.
- Screen sharing
- The learners in each pair (or group) can share the PC screen of one of them during a conversation.
- Designation of pair members
- The teacher can designate any one of the people in each pair (or group).
- Group work
- Conversation and screen sharing can be done within groups designated by the teacher or in groups set up by learners on their own. Files can be exchanged within each group.
- Out-of-class group work
- During outside-of-class time (when the teacher is not running the CaLabo EX controller), learners can form their own groups and show the screen of the group leader in each group to other members.
- Chat
- Chats on the chat board can be held within the whole class or between pairs/groups.
- Call teacher
- Any learner coming across a question can interact with the teacher.
- Response
- The teacher responds to calls from learners via the headset or chat systems.
- Analyzer
- Choice-type questions with time limits are distributed, and responses are tabulated in real time. The names of learners who answer correctly or incorrectly can be known on the spot with the results saved as a CSV file.
- Quiz
- Test sheets bearing a combination of multiple choice questions (MCQs), true-false questions and essays are distributed for proficiency testing. Results are automatically graded and fed back to each learner. It is possible to save the percentage of correct answers and answer details by learner/question in a CSV file.
- Assessment sheet
- Peer assessment sheets are distributed for assessing presentation skills, etc. The results are tabulated on the spot and saved in a CSV file.
- File distribution / collection
- The teacher can distribute files of teaching materials and collect them individually from each learner. After collecting the files, the teacher can correct them and return the corrected results.
- File Submission
- Learners submit assignment files to the teacher.
- Automatic selection
- Only one learner can be automatically selected from the list of those who are currently present.
Movie Teleco
- Teaching materials
- The teacher can use audio and video file materials by simply drag and drop.
The teacher can also specify YouTube or TED Talks as teaching materials.
- Playback
- The teacher can play discretionary selected audiovisual teaching materials on all learners' PC at the same time.
- Audio recording
- While playing audiovisual materials, learners can record speech sounds from them for using in comparative listening exercises.
- Screen display switching
- During video playback, the teacher's and learner's videos can be displayed in full screen mode.
- Bookmark
- "Bookmarks" can be assigned to audio data for a head start and playback from the bookmarks.
- Dubbing
- Our audiovisual capture system enables the classroom capture of both the teacher’s microphone-based voice and sounds of video from tapes and DVDs.
- Key mapping
- Play/pause and other operations can be performed on the keyboard.
- Play speed control
- Our system that realizes audiovisual synchronization can increase or decrease the audio playback speed without changing any pitch.
- Pitch waveform display
- Our system displays a comparison of the pitch waveforms of teaching material voice and recorded voice.
- Caption
- A synchronized video captioning method is available in our system.
- Teaching / SelfLearning
- The teacher takes controls the whole class when it is in a “Teaching” mode, whereas, in a SelfLearning mode, learners are free to operate the system on their own and learn at their own pace.
- Recording collection / simultaneous save
- The teacher can collect and simultaneously save the learners' audio recordings data any time in the classroom.
- Simultaneous start-up / stop
- The teacher can simultaneously turns on and off learners' "Movie Teleco".
- Take-home learning
- Students can take home the Movie Teleco data together with other relevant learning materials for at-home learning.
Audiovisual functions
- Voice transmission
- Our system impeccably switches any sound sources, the teacher’s microphone-based voice, PC-based sound reproduction and externally input sound.
- Sendig teaching materials
- Images and sound from audiovisual equipment and the teacher’s PC can be sent to a projector or room speakers as required.
- Remote control of audiovisual equipment
- Audiovisual equipment can be operated remotely on the teacher’s PC.
PC management functions
- Operation Lock / Blackout
- Our system allows the teacher to temporarily lock the learner's PC keyboard or mouse control or black out the screen.
- Seat icon display
- The desktop screen of each learner's PC is displayed on the seat icon.
- Power management
- The teacher simultaneously controls all learners’ PCs by using the remote turn-on/off, restart and logon/logoff buttons.
- Remote activation
- The teacher starts applications on all learners' PCs.
- Application monitoring
- The seat icon shows which application is used on learners' PCs.
- Simultaneous display of URLs
- The teacher starts the default browser to simultaneously display any websites on learners' PCs.
- No execution policy
- The teacher can temporarily keep a learner or learners from using applications and/or browsers.
- Web Restrictions / Program Restrictions
- Temporarily prohibits browsing websites and using specified programs on the learner's PC.
- Out-of-class internet control
- Our system enables the teacher to set restrictions on learners’ out-of-class access to websites from their PCs when the teacher's PC is not running.
The teacher can specify restriction schedules (days of the week or specific dates). Even while the scheduled restrictions are still in place, the teacher can temporarily remove any parts of the restrictions as required.
Attendance management functions
- Active Directory (AD) linkage
- The Active Directory linkage function automatically displays each learner’s name from the user authentication data collected at Windows logon. Also, the student ID number can be retrieved and reflected in attendance information and file names when files are collected and submitted.
- Class setting
- Seating layouts, seating charts and groups can be set up for each class.
- Attendance records
- An attendance sheet will be displayed at the beginning of each class to take attendance. Latecomers can also attend on their own.
- Save attendance results
- Save each learner's attendance results in a CSV file.
Configuration functions
- Seating layout
- The layout can be freely adapted to the seating arrangement in the classroom.
- Group creation
- The teacher can create groups freely by randomly selecting learner icons and dragging and dropping them into a group tab area. You can freely change groups during class.
- Controller language
- Languages on the teacher PCs’ control screen can be switched between Japanese, English and Chinese and more.
- Dual monitor
- The system can be constructed with a dual monitor setup which is always showing the teacher's control panel on one screen.
The teacher can operate his/her own desktop or control panel with a single keyboard/mouse.
- Multiple layouts
- Multiple seating layouts can be registered for each class.
